Jefferson County and City of Birmingham to Commit $1M to USFL Expenses

USFL Combine Reportedly Set for March 19-20 in Birmingham, AL

Last week the USFL held their inaugural draft, which saw all eight teams start the process of building out their rosters. March 10th the league is set to hold a supplementary draft for the coaches to complete their squad for the upcoming season.

Well, it looks like there may be some more info on that front.

Earlier today, NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that the USFL is set to hold a combine March 19-20 in Birmingham, AL.

We’ve reached out to the league for confirmation, and at the time of publication we’re waiting to get some more details on this front. As it stands, the USFL is set to start training camp March 21st, so this would roll right into the event.

Going into the draft, the league had over 700 players sign USFL contracts for the 2022 draft.

At the moment it’s unclear if this combine is going to be open to the public, or invitation only. But, once we hear more on this story we’ll make sure to give you the details. It is definitely interesting that we’re seeing a scouting event come after the two drafts and before training camp. Could this be a sign that the league is possibly considering expanding the roster? Who knows, but we’ll le you know when we find out.

UPDATE: Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal has some more information on the matter. He reports that the event is not a typical combine, rather a free agent tryout for anyone who was not in the draft pool.
